Is it Safe to Travel to Mexico

TRAVEL UPDATES | Published on 20/01/2023

2023 has begun and looking at the calendar to schedule your vacation is the first thing you should do. By booking in advance, you not only find better rates, but you can also afford to choose the best dates. With so many days ahead, the possibilities are endless: Spring break or a summer beach trip? Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit or Los Cabos? European plan or all-inclusive hotel? If you already have your sights set on any of these destinations, you may be wondering: is it safe to travel to Mexico right now?

The answer is a big and resounding yes! After the Covid-19 pandemic, things have returned to normal and there are no Mexico travel restrictions. On the other hand, recently there has been viral news that talks about Mexico’s safety. The first thing to clarify is that Mexico is a country with a large territorial extension. Many isolated events happening in the north do not affect the center or the south.

The media, in order to grab attention, publish sensational headlines that may make us doubt and question whether is it safe to travel to Mexico, but you know, nowadays it is all about getting traffic on websites and reactions on social networks. More than an information age, we have entered the age of misinformation with so many headlines, clickbait, and fake news. The media is just another company whose goal is to sell, and in order to achieve their goal they do not mind confusing or deceiving the public.

Safety in Mexico

With the media’s tendency to exploit negative news, it is understandable that some countries issue Mexico travel advisory when there is a tragic or violent event, but these are isolated events in certain parts of the country that are finally attended to and controlled by the authorities. Is it safe to travel to Mexico, you ask? Well, the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Canada wouldn’t have visited there to meet with the President of Mexico at a summit to discuss issues of importance to the North American region if it wasn’t.

But if you really want to know about Mexico vacation, the question shouldn’t be is it safe to travel to Mexico right now, research more specific places because tourists are happily strolling through our streets or quietly sunbathing on one of the beautiful beaches of the Mexican Pacific! In destinations like Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, and Los Cabos, people walk freely at any time of the day, and even at night. Of course, as in any place in the world, it is worth taking some precautions, such as not showing objects of value publicly or traveling through dark streets or very far from tourist areas.

Of course, you can stay at home until this wave of information passes while they enjoy a great vacation in Mexico… Or you can believe us and start looking at the calendar to choose the dates you would like to come and enjoy the wonderful weather of the Mexican beaches during this time of year! If there are no specific Mexico travel restrictions, it is because, despite some unfortunate events that have occurred, the authorities of your country still consider it a safe destination for you and your family.

If you still have some doubts about whether it is safe to travel to Mexico, we recommend you visit groups of Expats from your country who currently live in Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, or Los Cabos on social media and ask them directly about their perception of safety in Mexico. Nothing like a fellow countryman who lives here almost all year round to dispel your fears and misconception.

If you can’t travel now, it’s always a good idea to book your flights and accommodations well in advance to get low rates and great promotions. Start planning your Mexico vacation to come in spring or summer; both are excellent vacation seasons in any of the destinations where The Villa Group Resorts has a presence. We are waiting for you!
