Visitors to Puerto Vallarta during the third week in April should turn their gazes sky high during April to catch a glimpse of the spectacular 11th International Fireworks Art Symposium held from April 20-24, 2009.
Puerto Vallarta beat out other international destinations among them Brazil and China competing to be the venue for this exciting event. The fireworks symposium brings together fireworks manufacturers and other members of the industry, allowing them to exchange ideas, artistry and knowledge to move the explosively beautiful science forward. It also gives the pyrotechnicians from around the world a chance to showcase their skills for their industry colleagues and lucky bystanders.
Nighttime displays of the newest in aerial fireworks technology will dazzle crowds at various public venues around Puerto Vallarta, including the Malecon, the beach at Sheraton Hotel, and the Sports Stadium. Daylight displays include pyromusical shows of lights, special effects and music, and castillos, the most antique type of fireworks still produced in Mexico that is considered pure living history as its production is passed down from generations. To this day, castillos remain a great tradition in the coastal areas surrounding Puerto Vallarta, and are the focal point of many cultural celebrations.
